Louis Bortnick/Bortnik was born February 8, 1893, in Wolyn, Poland. In December 1936 he traveled on the ship SS Cristobal from Port au Prince, Haiti to New York City. He stated that he was a naturalized citizen of the U.S., as of March 10, 1936, and he was living on East 47th Street in New York City.
In 1942, Louis registered for the draft. He was living at Astoria, Long Island, with Mrs. L. Bortnick. He worked at the Hotel Pierre in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Louis Bortnick died March 8, 1982, at St. Barnabas Hospital, and was buried on Hart Island.
