William Scott Falt was born December 16, 1917, in Petite Riviere, Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of Joseph Scott and Sarah C. (Bain) Falt. Other children in the family were Charles, Mary, Dorothy, Margaret and Euphemia.
The family moved to the United States in 1912, and in 1930 were living in Stony Point, New York, where his father was a chef in a restaurant.
Ten years later William was single, and living in the Bronx with his brother Charles, Charles's wife Helen, and their newborn son, Scott. In 1940 Charles, like his father, was a chef in a restaurant, and William worked as a "porter" also in a restaurant.
William S. Falt died June 29, 1988, at the age of 70, and was buried on Hart Island.
