William Aubrey was born November 5, 1899, in Cardiff, Wales. William was married to Elvira Thomas on March 18, 1926 at Halifax, Nova Scotia. They had several children: John, born 1927 in Canada, Elvira, born 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, William, born 1930 also in Brooklyn, and Patricia, born 1933 in London, England.
William petitioned for U.S. citizenship in 1933. At that time he was living in Brooklyn, and gave his occupation as a marine engineer.
In 1935 William was living in Providence, Rhode Island, and stated that there were seven members of his family.
Throughout the 1940's and 1950's William traveled the world to such ports as Aruba, Liverpool, New Orleans, Fortaleza, Panama, and Cobh, Ireland. He usually worked as an assistant engineer on many ships, such as the Joseph Squires, Mormachawk, America, Curb, Clarke's Wharf, Sea Trader, Kettle Creek, Amelia Earhart, and the Potrero Hills.
William Aubrey died March 7, 1979, and was buried on Hart Island.
