Thomas Higgins was a 21 year old from Far Rockaway who was murdered after "defending his sister and her boyfriend in a dispute between them and her former boyfriend," according to the police writeup of the incident. After his sister, Edith Colwell, was hit multiple times with a baseball bat by the former boyfriend and his group of friends, Thomas intervened, and was beaten and stabbed, then later pronounced dead on arrival at St. John's Episcopal Hospital; his sister and her boyfriend survived.
