Samuel Salet/Salat was born July 15, 1886 or 87, in Knarev, Russia. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1906. In 1910, Sam was living in Manhattan. During WWI, in 1917, Sam registered for the draft in New York City. He stated he was married with one child, worked as a carpenter, and had his first citizenship papers. He described himself as short, slender, with "brownish" eyes and dark hair. His disability was specified as "nervous."


By 1920, he was married to Ida, and they were parents of a son named Morris, born around 1916. The family lived in Detroit, Michigan, where Sam worked as a carpenter.


In 1942, at the age of 54, Sam again registered for the draft at the advent of WWII. He was living on Barker Ave. in the Bronx. He stated that he was self-employed, and that the "person who will always know your address: was his son- Morris.


Samuel Salat died February 26, 1982, at St. John's Episcopal Hospital, and was buried on Hart Island.
