Robert Charles Wendell was born on February 11, 1933 at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. He was the son of Charles August and Theresa "Tessie" Wendell. The Episcopal Diocese records his parents and nurse, Mrs. Ellen Cox, as sponsors, and David Bowen as the minister at his christening.
Robert had several siblings: Margaret (or Marjorie), Dorothy, and Edward. His father supported the family by working as a plumber, and later in life as a casket maker. The family made their home at 1716 Webster Avenue in the Bronx.
By 1950 Robert was employed as a messenger for a dental factory. Between 1994 and 2020 his home was 2750 Johnson Avenue, Apt. 51, in the Bronx.
Robert Charles Wendell died on October 15, 2021 at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/ Queens. He was buried on January 14, 2022, on Hart Island.
