"Like those of so many buried at Hart Island, Mr. Ferrick’s life story is a sad one. He fell into drugs early, went to prison for helping a female companion rob her parents and try to kill them, and died under the wheels of an L train at the Bedford Avenue stop in Williamsburg in 1982.
His son Shawn Sheridan spent 20 years tracking him and got as far as a death certificate showing no place of burial. After learning of Ms. Hunt’s project, he contacted her. To find out whether Mr. Ferrick was at Hart Island, she filed a Freedom of Information Act request for all burials at the cemetery since 1980, and received more than 60,000 records. Mr. Ferrick’s was one of them."
