Raleigh Roar was born on Sept. 25, 1899 to Amanada (Mandy) Bradley Roar and Charlie Roar in Lynchburg, VA. Records indicate Raleigh's father died prior to Raleigh's 16th birthday. Accordingly a 1910 census, Raleigh had a brother, Samuel. Raleigh worked as coal miner and a brakeman as a young man. He also lived in Virginia, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania at various times. Raleigh was married at least twice, but it doesn't appear his marriages were successful.
