Paul Peter WeDekind was born in Altona, Hamburg, Germany on the 7th of April 1903.  Altona, now an upscale borough in Hamburg,  sits on the bank of the Elbe River and was founded as a fishing village in the 1500's.

Paul WeDekind signed on as an Able Bodied Seaman in Hamburg and arrived in the United States in July of 1922 aboard the S.S. Bayern.  In 1923, he began the process of applying for citizenship.

Based on shipping records available online, Paul worked as a seaman at various times over the next 27 years, sailing mainly the trans-atlantic routes.

His 1942 WWII Draft Registration Card records a man who is 5 feet 6 inches tall with blue eyes, blonde hair, and a light complexion.  He states that he is employed at the Empire State Building and next of kin is listed as Frank WedeKind.

Paul Peter WeDekind died on the 23rd of July 1983 and was buried on Hart Island on the 27th of October 1983.
