Milton Purnell Jarman (or Jarmon) was born either September 5, 1921, or September 7, 1922. Even the venerable Social Security system has both birthdates attached to the same Milton, with the same social security number. He was born in Kinston, North Carolina, the son of Isaac and Dorothy (Morton Waters) Jarman.
In 1940 Milton was seventeen years old, living at 904 Tower Hill Road in Kinston, North Carolina, with his grandparents, Edward and Ellen Morton. Ellen worked as a laundress, and Milton worked at "odd jobs." He had only a third grade education.
Milton's 1941 draft card from WWII gives the September 5, 1921 birthdate, and the "person who will always know your address" as his grandmother, Ellen Morton.
Milton's last residence was in the Bronx. He died on March 25, 1994 at the Concourse Rehab and Nursing Center, and was buried on Hart Island.
