McKenzie George Antwine was born December 10, 1922, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was the son of McKenzie and Lucy (Moody) Antwine. His father was a native of Grenada, West Indies, who worked as a fireman in New Brunswick.
Less than a month after he turned 18, McKenzie G. Antwine enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army Cavalry on December 30, 1940. His term of enlistment was one year, which means that he would have still been on active duty when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, precipitating the United States' entry into WWII. He stated that he had a grammer school education, that he was single without dependents, and that he was 5'6" tall and weighed 155 pounds.
McKenzie George Antwine died August 5, 1997, and was buried on Hart Island.
