Louis Vladislav Spanko was born in Manhattan, New York on the 6th of April 1904.  Louis was the only member of the family born in the United States.  Parents, Peter Spanko and Josephine Lovic Spanko emmigrated from Liptovský Mikuláš in Hungary (now part of Slovakia) in 1902.  Sailing with them aboard S.S. Kaiser Wilhelm Der Grosse were their other children Peter, Whilemenia (Wilma) John, and Grandmother, Zuzanna.

Father, Peter, died in 1922 and is buried in St. Michael's Cemetery in Queens, New York. The 1940 U.S. Census records Wilma, Peter, John and Louis living with their widowed mother, Josephine, in Manhattan.  Louis was employed as a machinist at the Henle Wax Paper Company in the Bronx.

On his WWII Draft Registration Card, Louis is described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall with gray eyes, blonde hair and a light complex.

Sister, Wilma, died in 1945 at just 47 years old, followed in death by mother, Josephine, in 1951.

Louis Vladislav Spanko died on the 20th of July 1982 and was buried on Hart Island on the 5th of August 1982.
