John Joseph Yankowski was born December 17, 1921, in Duryea, Pennsylvania, the son of Stanley and Frances (Przedzinkows) Yankowski. He had a grammer school education, and was described as 5'5", 130 pounds, and "single without dependents."
During WWII he enlisted in the Army on December 16, 1942, at Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, "for the duration of the War...plus six months." He was then living at 305 Stevenson in Duryea. John served until November 19, 1945. He was again activated for service in the Korean War, being discharged a second time from service on June 14, 1952.
Prior to his death, he was living in the Bronx. John Joseph Yankowski died August 25, 1992, and was buried on Hart Island.
