John Davis Dallas was born May 26, 1929 in Thompsonville, Georgia, the son of John and Bessie (Howard) Dallas. In 1930 they lived on Greensboro Road in Thomson, Georgia, where John Sr. was a farm laborer.
Ten years later John was ten years old and attending second grade, living in Thomson with his aunt and uncle- Lula and Jack Grier. Along with making a home for John, the Griers also had another niece and nephew living with them. Jack Grier worked as a laborer for the W.P.A. (Works Progress Administration).
In 1946 John registered for the draft. He was living at 161 W. 36th Street in New York, New York. He was unemployed and listed his aunt "Mrs. J. Grier 1061 Pine Street in Thomson, Georgia," as the person who would always know his address. John was described as 5' 9" tall, weighed 145 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair, a dark brown complexion, and a scar on the left wrist.
John Davis Dallas' last residence was in New York City. He died on May 8, 1995, and was buried July 21, 1995 on Hart Island.
