Hattie Blaylock was born Hattie Moten on September 14, 1913 in Fiskville, Texas. She was the daughter of Frank and Susie (Corzine) Moten. in 1930 the family lived on Lower Georgetown Road in Travis County, Texas, where her father Frank was a farmer, and Hattie, aged 16, attended school.
On October 1, 1936 Hattie married Leon Blaylock in Austin, Texas. The ceremony was performed by a Justice of the Peace, Tom E. Johnson.
In early 1940 the couple were living at 09 Chicon Street in Austin. Later that year they had moved to 2112 E. 21st Street, where Hattie's widowed mother, Susie Moten, lived with them. Hattie worked 35 hours a week cleaning houses, and Leon was employed as a porter at Seton Hospital.
Hattie's last residence was in Flushing, Queens, New York. Hattie Moten Blaylock died May 30, 1994 at Interfaith Medical Center. She was buried August 3, 1994 on Hart Island.
