Hans Hoelzig was born in Lehe, Bremerhaven, Germany on the 6th of January 1895.  He arrived in the United States, at Ellis Island, in 1914.

Shortly after arriving, Hans worked as a porter. During the 1920's, the 1930's and the early 1940's, he worked as an apartment building superintendent.

In 1935, Hans married Sophie Sass Kassner.  This was a second marriage for Sophie and she was already the mother of four children.  Sophie died in 1962.  Her burial place is unknown at this time.

On his WWII Draft Registration card in 1942, Hans is described as being 5 feet 4 inches tall with brown hair, brown eyes, and a light complexion.

Hans died in Elmhurst, Queens on the 6th of November 1981 and was buried on Hart Island on the 12th of January 1982.
