Hans Joachim Dorfer was born November 17, 1905, in Brandenburg, Germany. Prior to his emigration to the U.S. he was living in Paris, France. In 1929 he traveled to the U.S. on the Samaria. He gave his physical description as 5'8", 177 pounds, fair complexion, with gray eyes and brown hair. He worked as a clerk in the fine arts field, and later as a buyer for a department store. He lived variously on 56th and 88th streets in Manhattan, New York. He was naturalized as a citizen of the U.S. in 1936. As late as 1959 Hans was still living in Manhattan.
Hans Joachim Dorfer died October 2, 1983, and was buried on Hart Island.
