Hanford Gordon Brewer was born October 13, 1892, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of George and Bertha Brewer. George was born in England, and gave his religion as Church of England. Hanford's mother Bertha was a native of Nova Scotia, and a member of the Presbyterian Church. Hanford had a brother born around 1903 named Albert.
In between 1935 and 1940, Hanford was living on Fulton Street in New York, and working at a restaurant. He gave his marital status as "widowed", and his citizenship status as "alien." In 1942 during WWII, he was required to register for the U.S. draft. He was then working at a Stationery Store located at 156 Myrtle Av. in Brooklyn.
Hanford Gordon Brewer died June 19, 1981, at New York Methodist Hospital. He was buried on Hart Island.
