He was born in Hungary in 1949.01.01. After divorce he left behind his family and his only son, who was then 6 years old. In 1982 he went to Austria to New York. He kept writing for his son and sending money. From these letters we know that Julianne married an older woman.
In 1993, a phone call from New York arrived that he died.
So far we have known this until 2015.
That's when I started to look first at my grandfather. Old wounds were erupting at my father, especially because we knew more and more about his life.
We talked to the wife's sister.
We have learned that their marriage has been interrupted. My grandfather died in an accident. Fell off the ladder.
He knew that Lenox Hill died in a hospital but did not remember the date.
The Hungarian Consulate did not tell Hungary that he was dead. There is no Hungarian Death Certificate. We are working to get it, but we need a precise date, and we only knew it two weeks ago.
We found a database that collected the Hart Island project data. So we found it, but we were not sure he was. His name was badly written. Then I started searching the cemetery after finding a more detailed record of life and hospital. So we were sure he was my grandfather. Based on the time we found, we requested the American Death Certificate.
Then another week passed and I did not let you know why my grandfather was buried and I took the case back. I started watching videos on YouTube. Then I met Hart Island Project and Melinda Hunt. Much helped us understand what happened.
We can not travel to New York, but at least we can see the map where it rests.
Thank you for your work!
