Evelyn Zarick was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 4, 1930, to Edward and Katy (Sadaka) Zarick. Her parents were both Syrian immigrants, with her father arriving in the U.S. in 1912. He was a veteran of World War I, serving as a cook in Company F 330 Infantry. He supported the family by working as a salesman, at one point working for the "Julian Negligee" company.
By 1930 the family had four little girls, Nora, Gloria, Grace and Evelyn, all arriving at 18 month intervals. They lived at 4803 6th Avenue in Brooklyn.
Prior to 1940 the family had moved to 602 44th Street. The girls were all attending school, and the family had been joined by little brother, Edward Zarick Junior.
When Evelyn was a young woman of 20, she was employed as a bookkeeper for a wholesale fruit company. She was living with her parents at 307 72nd Street, and her father was working as a "mailing man" for an Arabic newspaper.
Evelyn's father Edward died on December 7, 1959, and was buried in Green Wood Cemetary in Brooklyn, with a government marker to honor his World War I service.
Evelyn Zarick died on July 6, 1980, at the age of 50. On August 5, 1980, she was buried on Hart Island.
