Eugene John Compton was born January 8, 1910, in Springfield, Ohio, to William and Eliza (Moore) Compton. He was one of a large family including siblings Gertrude, Elmore, Edith, Grace, Paul and Janet. In 1910, the family lived on Miami Street in Springfield, and in 1920 they lived on Innesfallen Avenue.
In 1930 he lived with his brother Paul and sister Janet on Irwin Factory Street in Springfield.
By the beginning of World War II, Eugene John was living at 1610 7th Street in Oakland, California. He listed as his next of kin Mrs. Eliza Day of 525 Gillespie Street in Flint, Michigan (his mother had remarried and moved to Michigan.) The physical description as given for his draft card was as follows: Negro, brown eyes, brown hair, and dark brown complexion.
Prior to 1951, when Eugene John signed up for a social security card, he was living in Kentucky.
His father, William, died on August 2, 1961.
Eugene John Compton died on July 5, 1980, at the age of 70. He was buried August 18, 1980 on Hart Island.
