Erwin John Scholz was born in Breslau, Germany on the 27th of January 1901.  Breslau, a city in lower Silesia under German rule, was transferred to Polish control following WWII, and today is known as Wroclaw (Vrots-laff).

Erwin arrived in New York in January of 1927 traveling from Bremen on the ship, S.S. Muenches.  In 1930, he petitioned for naturalization and stated he is a plumber employed in Hoboken, N.J.

In 1939, he married Maria Wollny, also a German national.  Maria had arrived, traveling alone, from Germany in 1929 at the age of 41.  Their marriage license states that Erwin is employed as a plumber and his parents' names are listed as Adolph and Albertine Scholz.

In 1940, the census of that year states that Erwin and Maria are engaged in running their own rooming (boarding) house.

Erwin is described on his WWII Draft Registration Card as being 5 feet 7 inches tall with brown hair, brown eyes and a light complexion.

Erwin John Scholz died in New York on the 5th of May 1982 and was buried on Hart Island on the 24th of June 1982.
