David Scales was born 11 Jul 1914 in Greensboro, NC; son of Henry (1875-1946) and Eliza J Hairston (1881-1954) Scales. His grandfather Simpson "Sim" Scales Jr (1850-1912) and great-grandfather Simpson Scales Sr (b ~1824) were born enslaved peoples, likely working on one of the plantations belonging to Col. On 14 May 1942, David married Carrie Watts in NYC. She died at age 47 of uremia in Charlotte, NC, on 6 Mar 1963. David died 18 Oct 1979 at the age of 65.
