Alois Carl Krauss was born in Vienna, Austria on the 21st of December 1891 to parents Alois Krauss and Marie Endlweber Krauss. He left Austria for the United States and arrived at Ellis Island on the 30th of October 1912.
After arriving in New York, Alois rented a room and worked as a waiter. In 1917, Alois states on his WWI Draft Registration Card that he is employed as a waiter at the Banker's Club Equitable Building on Broadway. He must have been very skilled in his profession as the Bankers Club at The Equitable Building served as an exclusive private dining facility for business leaders, celebrities, and foreign dignitaries. On his WWI Draft Registration, Alois is described as being, tall and slender with gray eyes and brown hair.
Alois met Paula M. Schmidt, a Hungarian immigrant, and they were married at the Dutch Reform Church in Manhattan in 1920. One child was born of the marriage, a son named Alois Julius. Alois Julius served in the navy during WWII and was buried in a military cemetery in Riverside California in 2004 at the age of 83.
In 1942, Alois registered for the WWII Draft. He states that he is working as a waiter for the Ritz Carlton Hotel on Madison Avenue. He is described as being 6 feet 2 inches tall, with brown eyes, gray hair, and having a light complexion.
Alois Carl Krauss died on the 2nd of December 1981 and was buried on Hart Island on the 22nd of January 1982.
