Are infants who died in Brooklyn also end up here? My uncle Francisco (Frank) Mandry was born and died on the same day supposedly in 1951. He died from an enlarged heart. Thats all my mother knows of her brother. There is no birth cert or death cert found amoung my grandmothers files. My heart sank reading the stories and watching the video of this place. I pray my uncle is not here but if he is I would like to know but I fear I will never know or be able to give my mother piece of mind on her brothers whereabouts due to this fire.

You or your mother can order a copy of his death certificate from the Dept. of Health Vital Statistics. It will say what happened to the child's body under cemetery. If nothing is listed, the child is almost certainly buried on Hart Island. Burial records from that period are at the Municipal Archives. Links to all of this information are available under faqs on this website.

Hope this helps.
